Overview and Introduction: Connie Morris
The workshop will explain education legislation (IDEA), including Indicator 13 as the cornerstone in transition planning. Transition and graduation options will discuss life skills, team player roles, social interaction, building on past successes, and ideas that are evidence based and sensory-friendly that will move students into their next chapter.
Parent Responsibility – Dave Zwyer
Dave will provide the group with insight into the multiple decisions and options that parents/families face as they look to the future. Future Planning for parents includes weighty decisions in the areas of guardianship, estate planning (i.e., wills, trusts and trustees) and related housing and employment issues and more. Participants will be made aware of how they need to modify those decisions over the course of the individual’s life starting in childhood to adolescence to adulthood. Resources will be provided.

Community Responsibility Coordinated by Multi-Agency Teams – Chris Filler & Suzanne Beck
The state leaders of the Employment First Transition Framework will briefly introduce the framework elements. The participants will also be guided to understand how to use the Transition Framework Tools in multi-agency teams to plan and coordinate the transition of youth with developmental disabilities. Evidence based practices which research shows increases the likelihood of post school success will also be discussed. Resources will be provided to assist participants with implementation of the tools discussed.
*5 hours of DODD certification has been approved for Adult Services, SSA, County Board Member, Investigative Agent & Superintendent. Early Intervention is not approved for this training.
